The Incidence and Severity of Downy Mildew Disease on Local Madurese Maize Crops in Sumenep district, East Java, Indonesia

In Madura island, corn is the main commodity that widely planted with an area of 301,725 ha or about 30% maize in East Java. Island has local cultivars, such as: Tambin, Talango, Guluk-guluk, Manding, and Kretek. Efforts to increase production are continuously being made, starting from improving varieties until managing plant pests. One diseases downy mildew. However, information incidence, severity, species cause mildew cultivars not been reported. So, this study aims identify causes disease severity field. The research method a survey on centers. Sampling was done by using diagonal sampling method. Each sample observed for symptoms scoring calculate value severity. Fungi identification carried out microscopic observation fungus. results showed Sumenep Regency P. maydis. highest AUDPC after 4 MST were found Guluk-guluk Padangdangan Village, but had lowest progression rate values.
